STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
I am Mr. Bivek Bhattarai a permanent residence of Rupandehi,
Nepal. I have completed my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information System
from renowned university of Nepal (Pokhara University). I am seeking a chance
to be a part of your university through this SOP. Research, Education,
International exposurefrom reputed university of yours, which helps in
developing and enhancing skills, capabilities are the reasons driving me for
applying master’s degree in University of Minnesota in Software Engineering.
As the innovative and advanced technologies are emerging day
by day, the essence of learning and knowledge to handle it is essential to
compete in this challenging competition. Computers and technologies have
touched each and every aspects of our life and its dependent is for sure to
grow in the future. To be able to cope and adapt in this dynamic environment,
it becomes important to know about them and be expert on handling them. To be
able to raise your name is such world full of innovations and technologies, is
a challenging task.
For surviving in such world, I will have to gain knowledge
and skills that can help in enhancing and developing my capabilities in every
aspect of computer and software technologies. I will need both theoretical and
practical knowledge regarding them in order to be competent. During my college
years, I had various opportunities to demonstrate my critical thinking,
reasoning and performance in group work, projects and presentations which were
always appreciated by my professors and classmates.
By doing research from
internet, friends and professors I found out that Master’s in Software
Engineering is the best subject that best suits for me for achieving dreams.
All the necessary skill and knowledge required for developing my carrier in
software and computer sector can be enhanced it. With such degree I would not
only be able to work in field of Computer Engineering but also in Data
Analytics and High Performance Computing. Getting this degree from internationally
recognized university will assist me a lot in competing in international
platform.
WHY MASTER’S IN SOFTWARE ENGINEERING?
Since my childhood I have a great interest on computers and
new innovative technologies.I have always been enthusiastic and curious to get
information about computer related technologies along with programming codes.
During my school period, we used to learn QBASIC in which a simple code can
perform various things that influenced me a lot. After my successful completion
of higher secondary education, I joined CCT College for my undergraduate
studies. Being a part of CCT, I got chance to learn courses relating to
computer and technology. I have always been an enthusiastic and active learner.
During my time in CCT, I got chance to engage in different IT
related fields. As a part of my course requirement, I had done internship in IT
Department of Bhirkutee Development Bank Pvt. Ltd, Butwal, Rupandehi. During my
intern period, I got chance to know about ‘PUMORI’ system which is widely used
software in banking system. I was guided and given knowledge about the
networking, security systems and other parts of IT related aspects of Banking
System. I have always been ahead in my undergraduate studies when it comes to
programming and coding.In my 4 years bachelor study, I got
several experiences and being engaged several organizations and areas I
excelled in my academic results and scored A in C, C++, computer graphics,
MYSQL, DBMS, etc.
During my final year,
I got selected as a MSP (Microsoft Student Partner) by Microsoft Innovation
Center Nepal from our college. Being a MSP was quiet an experience which helped
me a lot in developing my knowledge and skills in Microsoft related
applications. I got chance to boost my knowledge regarding new and innovative
technologies developed my Microsoft. Along with this, I got chance to volunteer
for “HOUR OF CODE” program as a part of MSP, which helped my teaching and
explaining skills to small students about how a small code can work effectively
if used correctly.
These all my academic
skills and my learning are enough for this time in my city. Nevertheless, for
national and global level my skills and knowledge are not enough. For this I
need to learn from the best and I need to have good command over the several
programming languages and applications, which I can only learn from experts. I
am planning to get quality knowledge and develop several applications that will
be beneficial in educational and health sectors of my country. I am willing to
transform my education, knowledge and skills for the sake of the country and
its population. Every detail to develop such application and to support the
education and health sector of my country, education and skills that I need
could be achieved by the study of Master’s in Software Engineering.

towards the university. Along with this, the group of renowned professors,
beyond the classroom experience, full guidance and advisers are the reasons
that attracted me. Besides this, your university ranked as one of the best
globally recognized educational institution for its excellence. To improve my
knowledge in the field of technology and help me style myself to a better
computer expertise, learning and developing my abilities further at this
university is crucial. I am very much attracted with the standard facilities
available at your university and the experience you provide students as per field
along with the trend of engaging students with professors from the beginning to
develop students. The education and guidance making students able to tackle the
challenge and obstacles are also among the influencing factors. Reputation of
the program, interdisciplinary program and international setting also most
responsible factors that made me pursue my higher education at University of
Minnesota.
I completed my
Bachelor in Computer Information System (BCIS) from Crimson College of
Technology, affiliated to Pokhara University, ranked as one of the top college
of country. The academic standard along with the teaching staffs and the
college itself has boost my confidence to take up challenge of pursuing
Master’s program of Software Engineering from this globally recognized
University of yours.
Why USA?
Worldwide recognition
of degrees from U.S. for their excellence and home of several college and
universities, it is best country for pursuing academic study. United States of
America has one of the finest education systems of the world with wonderful
programs in almost every field. Opportunity of working with the finest mind of
the field along with the chance to become involved in several research and
educational opportunities are provided in universities of USA. Academic
institutions of U.S.A focuses on practical education, employment-related skills
and still other specialization in technical and science fields, that attracts
most students to pursue higher education in U.S.A. Several teaching and training
opportunities that enables student to become teacher’s assistant and research
assistant is provided to students in U.S. This might help to explore different
shades of our field of study. Almost every educational program has wide variety
of course choices. International student office of many institutions is great
source when it comes to adapting to a culturally and academically different
environment. Comprehensive knowledge, adaptability and experience gained by
international students are something that many employers prefer.
CONCLUSION
I will try to gain
maximum from the facilities provided to me and I assure you that I will bring
best out of me in every academic and non-academic sections. I will make every
possible positive effort to scale great academic heights and bring honor to
your university. I think this program at your university will assist me to
accomplish my goals, exploit my potential to fullest extent and guide me to
that path to realize my dreams to become a successful man.In my country, the Information
Technology is improving day by day. In such environment I intend to be a
Professional Software developer and help my people by implementing my knowledge
in their best interest. Moreover, I have planned to start a College in my
hometown that will provide both theoretical as well as practical knowledge
about programming skills and software development. There are very few colleges
in my hometown that focus on practical knowledge. I would like to help my
society by developing, by enhancing students and their skills that would help
in developing the society as well as nation.
Hence, I plan to complete my master’s degree with full
enthusiasm and dedication which will help me in attaining professional success.
