 Statement Of Purpose

I would like to introduce myself as Paudel Shriram a permanent inhabitant of Rupandehi, Nepal. I have completed my three year BS and two year MS in Physics from the renowned & oldest  university of Nepal (Tribhuvan University) with specialization on astrophysics . In my career, I never believe that we can broaden our knowledge only from books. I spend majority of my time in the library, at the research centre, at the classroom and in the laboratory from where I grab more knowledge and experience. Academically I was always good, dedicated, and hard working in my class from my school career to my MS level. I am an enthusiastic and active learner. My three-year BS and two year MS study prepared my life quite fruitful and I have developed some theoretical and practical skills that a physicist would require to perform any related task. My performance in group work, class discussions, and presentations were always well appreciated by my colleagues and professors. Right now, I am working as physics lecturer in Campion Kathmandu college for undergraduate level and I have been teaching astrophysics to the graduate at one of the reputed institution of my country as soon as I completed my MS. I am proud to say that I am among the very curious student. I wish to enter your University for graduation Program in physics.
Since my childhood, I always discussed some magical questions about scientific discovery with my science teacher but they were unable to answer with sufficient explanation about my queries, which increased my thirst towards science and technology. Primarily I have always been fascinated and interested in physics rather than other branches of science and thus developed a goal to be a successful physicist (as university professor or researcher).  I believe, a meaningful life is all about aiming high and working hard to reach that high. Finding myself keenly drawn to the challenges of this area, I wanted to learn all about physics and its mechanism in order to advance my knowledge.
I studied Physics and Mathematics with other subjects like chemistry and Biology in my undergraduate career. Our college used to organize science exhibition and seminars of national and international, which helped me to understand how to use theories, and principles to attain a definite result, such kind of programs increased my tremendous interest towards physics. During my bachelor degree, I worked as a part time science teacher in a public school for two years. That experience gave me great opportunity to understand and realize the basic concepts of Physics. I was also increasing my knowledge during teaching in classrooms and assisting students in lab. Sometimes I feel quite ashamed because of  I used to be delayed of giving more detailed explanations to my students  by the availability of very limited resources in a developing country like Nepal. Same situation was there in my University where I was studying bachelor & master, such as congested studying rooms, inadequate lab equipments, limited library resources etc. Those deficiencies did not upset but heightened my desire towards my subject.
In my Master’s degree, I have studied Astrophysics as major subject including other subjects like mathematical physics, quantum mechanics, classical & Statistical mechanics, digital electronics, and electrodynamics. It is bitter truth that in 21th century many of our seniors got incredible success on other branch of science but did not directly connected to astrophysics, this is the reason why I am interested towards astrophysics. I am primarily interested in star formation in ISM, all sky survey, formation and evolution of galaxies, dark energy and have some interest in gravitational lancing. Firstly, I started my master’s dissertation on “Study of Three Dimensional Variation of Planet Jupiter’s Outer Atmosphere”. In order to support my research work, I had got some economical support as scholarship from the Ministry of Science & Technology, Nepal. It is sad to say that we have only one Observatory with 14’’ Schmidt Casgerrian Telescope. During this period, I have learnt how to handle telescope as well as to capture objects in the sky. Unfortunately I could not continue my research further due to internal quarrelsome of Ministry of science & technology with Central department of Physics. After then I have completed my master dissertation on ISM (A new Comet-like isolated far infrared Nebula at +86° galactic latitude) in Feb,2014. My research work was based to estimate the  dust color temperature, dust mass as well as to calculate Jean’s mass in order to examine there is possibility of star forming region or not. I studied the flux density variation (along major & minor axis) as well as angle of inclination within the structure. During my research work, I searched for an isolated nebular structure for different wavelength (12μm, 25μm, 60μm & 100μm) in IRAS band. I carried out a systematic search of IRAS maps available in the sky view Virtual Observatory. While  scanning the sky covering range of galactic longitude from 0° to 360°(more than 11000 JPE & FITS images) I found some amazing isolated structures surrounding planetary nebula, pulsars, white dwarf & different galaxies. Finally With the help & Suggestion of my supervisor Prof.Dr. Aryal B.(HOD of central Department of physics Tribhuvan University, Nepal), the structure located at latitude of +250° and longitude of +86° on southern Hemisphere of our galaxy was selected for my research. During the period of my MS program, I was lucky to participate as poster and oral presentator at international conference on Astrophysics & cosmology (19-21 march, 2012). At that Seminar I got a chance to attain on oral presentation of various astronomers from different developed countries. I was fascinated by the speech based on topic “Dark energy” demonstrated by Prof. Dr Chakraworthy which is one of the best seminar attended by me. In addition, I got chance to Participate at 9th national school on space science ( Mar28- April03) & workshop on application of space science (july8-11,2011) as well as  Exhibitor at first national science exhibition (Feb 2010). Furthermore, it is my fortune to attain at Seminars of Summer school program and Physics Conferences organized by Central Department of Physics (Tribhuvan University, Nepal) from where I grab some more knowledge about the mechanism of star formation and other natural phenomenon where modern science is based. I am seeking an opportunity to grow up my waves of mind.

In spite of several limitations, I tried to use available resources to understand. Although, I have basic ideas of most of the branches of physics, I am like as innocent infant on the ocean of Physics. So that I wish to be a mature and grow up my knowledge. I believe that without completion doctoral degree and if I have no an adequate teaching and learning experience, my knowledge in physics would remain quite incomplete. Therefore, I look forward to joining world-class universities which fits me the best for graduation. When I surf the website of yours University, I was fascinated because of high technological educational environment, well occupied Physics laboratory & advanced research activities done there by senior researchers. I also study your Cv deeply and thus I wish to research under your supervision I don’t know whether I am capable or not. Thus, I would like to apply for the Department of Physics at your University.

Finally, I wish to promise you that I have provided all the genuine documents. I humbly request the respective admission team Service to grant me approval for my application for admission. I am a genuine student who is very keen in Pursuing degree from your university and I am confident  that I will receive the scientific skills and intellectual disciplines from your esteemed University that will help me to continue in the field of Physics. I further assure you that I will tolerate all the conditions imposed on and defined on my Offer and visa’s guidelines.
Sincerely yours
